Can gravity be negative?

Someone brought it up over dinner and, without meaning to, poked at one of the biggest mysteries in physics. Let’s take it apart.

First plot twist: gravity isn’t a force. It’s an acceleration — 9.8 meters per second, every second. And Einstein raised the stakes: it’s not even that. It’s the curvature of spacetime. What you feel as “weight” is pure acceleration. Falling in an elevator and floating in space feel identical — Einstein called it “the happiest thought of my life.”

Negative? As a direction, easy: it just means “the other way.” But there’s a wilder version, and it’s real: dark energy behaves like a gravity that pushes instead of pulls, driving the universe apart faster and faster. It’s the closest thing to “negative gravity” we know of.
