It sounds like a lie, but it’s pure math. A sheet of paper is about 0.1 mm thick. Fold it: 0.2. Again: 0.4. Again: 0.8…
Every fold doubles the thickness. And doubling spirals out of control astonishingly fast. By the 42nd fold: 0.1 mm × 2⁴² ≈ 440,000 km. The Moon sits at 384,400 km. You blew right past it. (In practice you can’t fold a real sheet more than about 7 or 8 times — but the math doesn’t lie.)
This is exponential growth, the same pattern behind compound interest, viral posts, and how a pandemic explodes. The catch is that your brain thinks in straight lines, while the world sometimes moves along a curve that suddenly shoots for the sky.
What looks impossible is often just hard to picture. And that’s exactly where math wins the bet.
